REMDreamer Pro Review

In this blog post, I am going to review the REMDreamer Pro lucid dreaming mask.

The review will be a combination of my own opinion and experience, third party reviews from other authoritative websites, and customers reviews (mainly from Amazon).

The review will consider the following criteria:

  • Design and comfort
  • Level of Customization
  • Technology
  • User-Friendly Experience
  • Cost and Value

This post is part of a series of articles reviewing lucid dream masks. If you want to know more about the topic, make sure you also read the following blog posts:

However, before getting into the details of the review, let's see what lucid dreaming is.

What is Lucid Dreaming?

Lucid dreaming is a phenomenon in which a person becomes aware that they are dreaming while they are still in the dream state.

This can allow you, the dreamer, to have some control over the dream, such as the ability to change the dream's plot or manipulate the environment.

If you want to know more about this, make sure you read my other article:

And now, let's look at the REMDreamer Pro mask.

REMDreamer Pro Mask Review

In 2004 a Polish team created a device called the REM-Dreamer. It was quite similar to the NovaDreamer. Its price was 147 Euro, much cheaper than the NovaDreamer. It was sold from 2004 to 2019.

After gaining some popularity for a while, it recently went out of stock. Grabbing a REMdreamer now is almost impossible, as most online stores that used to sell it are now out of stock.

1. Design and Comfort

While REMDreamer Pro design is considered somehow functional, it falls short in terms of comfort. Some users report discomfort due to its bulkier frame, which may hinder the transition into sleep, ultimately impeding the lucid dreaming process.

This doesn't come as a surprise. The REMDreamer mask uses heavier hardware and is powered by two AA batteries, although the latest version works with a coin cell battery like the Remee one.

Additionally, customers find the fit of the sleep mask uncomfortable and awkward. They say it doesn't work and they lose sleep because of the discomfort.

2. Customization

Unlike Remee, REM Dreamer Pro lacks extensive customization options, limiting the ability to tailor the dream experience to individual preferences. This one-size-fits-all approach may not cater to the diverse needs of lucid dreamers, thereby diminishing its effectiveness.

3. Technology

The REMDreamer Pro uses a technology measuring your eye movements and head movements. This helps determine when you are in REM sleep with a higher level of precision. This is what Dreamstudies.org writes about REMDreamer Pro's technology:

The technology behind this sensing is known as actigraphy, which measures minute muscular responses –including eye movements — associated with sleep stages.

Another smart feature of the REMDreamer is the Two Way Communication (TWC) between the device and the dreamer (source: World-of-lucid-dreaming.com):

When the TWC feature is used on the REM Dreamer, it creates a series of light cues of increasing intensity. Once you become lucid, you can actually signal back to the lucid mask that you have become conscious. The infra-red sensors in the mask detect the pattern and stops giving lucidity cues.

In short, this means that your lucid dreams won't be interrupted by any flashing light cues.

Having said that, it's worth mentioning that while this all sounds good on paper, many customers are dissatisfied with the lighting of the sleep mask. They mention that it flashes and beeps in the middle of their sleep.

In general, they claim that it doesn't work as described, it basically works like a timer, and the sensor doesn't operate.

4. User-Friendly Experience

REM Dreamer Pro's interface may overwhelm users with its complexity, deterring beginners from fully harnessing its potential. Its convoluted settings and operation may pose a steep learning curve, discouraging experimentation and inhibiting lucid dream induction.

5. Cost and Value

The REMDreamer Pro costs $185. Customers of the REMDreamer Pro are generally dissatisfied with the value of the sleep mask. They mention that it's expensive and a waste of money.

The Verdict

According to most customers and reviewers, the REMDreamer Pro lacks in the following areas:

  • Design and Comfort
  • Customization
  • Cost and Value

The REMDreamer Pro's feature of detecting REM sleep makes its technology appealing to those customers who have hard time identifying their REM sleep phase.

However and as pointed out in point 4, it's worth mentioning that many customers are dissatisfied with its functioning and claim it also works as a timer.

As far as User-Friendly Experience, the REMDreamer Pro requires a certain learning curve of trial and error before helping you to get lucid.

While REMDreamer Pro presents a worthy mask for lucid dreaming, due to its technology, its shortcomings in design, comfort and customization, make it a second choice if compared with other lucid dreaming masks like NeuroOn or Remee.

Note from the author

As of March 2024, it seems the REMDreamer Pro mask has been discontinued. According to Eachnight.com:

We recently saw the continuous unavailability of the REMdreamer device. Several people have actually taken note of this – and when the product is available, it is usually in a used condition. The official company that manufactures the REMdreamer device has not provided any useful details on why the product remains out of stock.
